Now look at all we've won with the saber and the gun / Tell
me, is it worth it all?
-Phil Ochs, I Ain't Marching Any More
Gun Control Supporters: Look at all you've
won
You've won the privilege of the limousine liberals, the wealthy elite,
the lords of the manor, to own and carry firearms while they enact gun
control laws for "the little people." "As much as I oppose the average
person's having a gun, I recognize that some people have a legitimate
need to own one. A wealthy corporate executive who fears his
family might get kidnapped is one such person. A Hollywood celebrity
who has to protect himself from kooks is another. If Sharon Tate had had
access to a gun during the Manson killings, some innocent lives might have
been saved." -- Joseph D. McNamara (San Jose, CA ex-Police Chief, and HCI
spokesman), Safe and Sane (book) ,1984, p. 71-72.
-
Prominent antigun Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) used her
power and influence to get a pistol permit. Why are her life and physical
safety more important than yours?
-
Wealthy playboy Senator Ted Kennedy's (D-MA) bodyguard was
detained (but not prosecuted) for trying to carry a machine pistol
into the Senate Office building.
-
Influential Washington Post columnist and gun control
supporter Carl Rowan avoided conviction for shooting a trespasser
with a "warning shot" from an unregistered pistol in Washington,
DC
You're won the privilege of states and cities to disarm you and then not
protect you from violence.
-
Courts have ruled that police have no obligation to protect
ordinary citizens.
-
During the Los Angeles riots, police told citizens, "You're
on your own."
-
New York police ignored Jews' 911 calls during the Crown
Heights riots, much as German police did not stop Nazis from killing Jews
and trashing Jews' property during the infamous "Night of the Broken Glass"
in 1938.
Our side supports your right to own a firearm to protect your life and
the lives of your family members. We do not think a rich executive's or
Hollywood celebrity's life is more important than yours, and we do not
believe that state or local governments have any right to disarm you and
then refuse to protect you.
Look at what you've won. Time to say, "I ain't a-marching
any more?"
