(1) In 2000, the Million Mom March lied to the public, the media, and prospective donors about firearm misuse killing 12 children a day. It was Clintonese: that depends on what you mean by "children." It's quite possible that the group's founder, "ordinary housewife" Donna Dees-Thomases, consulted her close friend Hillary Clinton (D-NY) on the ethical issues involved in soliciting donations and volunteer support while redefining legal adults as children to inflate the figures.
(2) The then-501(c)(3) tax-exempt Million Mom March (now the Million
Mom March Foundation) may have used tax-exempt money to help run a political
campaign in 2000.
The group was first exposed for touting House candidates
Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), Joe Hoefel (D-PA), and Connie Morella (R-MD) on
its Apple Pie Award Web page in April, 2000. Then, regarding the Mother's
Day march itself, per the July 2000 American Rifleman
Daniel T. McElrath wrote, "The march itself turned
out to be a thinly disguised Clinton-Gore rally designed to rouse the
flagging interest of the 'soccer moms' whose support the Democrats need
in November."
NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre wrote, "The
'hate NRA' theme was only matched by the demand for political action. '…Get
out there and use your vote.' 'Support Al Gore.' 'In November, march with
our feet to the polling booth.' 'Take us to November. We're gonna vote!'
'We are going to vote, write checks.'"
The NRA's American Rifleman is not an impartial
source (although I consider it accurate), but speech transcripts from the
Million Mom March's own Web site verified that campaign activity had taken
place. Election-related speeches were given by Kathleen Kennedy-Townsend
(D-MD), Bobby Rush (D-IL), Rabbi Eric Yoffie of the 501(c)(3) exempt
Union of American Hebrew Congregations, Elizabeth Wright, Jim and Sarah
Brady, Reese Witherspoon, and Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY).
(3) The MMM's official mission statement (year 2000) side by side with the MMM Foundation's Form 990 tax return (year 2000) speak for themselves. Read Line 1 carefully. "NO" is checked.

(4) The MMM lied to the United Nations about
firearm misuse in the U.S.

MARY LEIGH BLEK, Million Mom March: "The gun lobby has been talking
for 40 minutes. During that time, 40 people have died from the use
of small arms and light weapons in this country. That figure, not
the statement of those representatives, is further proof that this country
is at war." One death/minute times 60 minutes/hour times 24 hours/day times
365 days/year = 525,600 deaths per year. This "whopper" would do
Bill Clinton proud, and it's documented by the the MMM's own friends at
the United Nations. [The UN later changed the phrase "in this country" to "in the world" but the context (e.g. "this country is at war") suggests that the original wording was correct and that the UN "corrected" the statement as a coverup.]
